FAIRGROVE VILLAGE COUNCIL

MEETING MINUTES

JUNE 4, 2012

 

PRESENT:  P. Wood, J. Gehrls, D. Maguire, T. Humpert, A. Leen, T. Wassa

ABSENT:  L. Hall

EMPLOYEES:  D. Englehart, C. Childs, D. Young, S. Hadaway

VISITORS:  M. Drier, F. Young, S. Young, P. Hagedon, B. Phelps, S. Roestel, R. Humpert

 

Council meeting called to order at 7 p.m.  Humpert/Wood made a motion to accept the May 14, 2012 Fairgrove Village Council Minutes.  Motion Carried.

 

Audience Recognition – None

 

Department/Committee Reports

Fire – Chief Young reported that the truck should be done this week and able to be picked up and delivered to Mt. Pleasant to Burch Tank.  C. Childs discussed that DTE Energy had sent the Village a check in the amount of $7100.00 for their bill which totals $18,600.00.  Humpert/Leen made a motion to deny check in the amount of $7100.00 and contact Village Attorney to handle this outstanding bill.  Motion Carried.

 

Police – Wood explained that the Village of Akron is in the process of attaining resumes to fill the Police Chief position, however, the Police Committee is recommending to the Village Council to break the Police Contract with the Village of Akron due to breach of contract.  At this point, it was also explained that Fairgrove Township are uncertain as to what they are going to do regarding a police department.  F. Young stated that the Village of Fairgrove definitely needs police protection.  The Police Department will have to be restarted through the State of Michigan.  Gehrls/Wassa made a motion to restart the Village of Fairgrove Police Department through the State of Michigan.  Motion Carried.

 

Wassa/Wood made a motion to contact A. LaPratt to offer him the position of re-starting the Police Department back up and also begin searching for a Police Chief and part-time officer.  Motion Carried.

 

Wassa/Humpert made a motion to pay A. LaPratt $14.00 an hour.  Motion Carried.

 

Department of Public Works Report

Englehart will tear the cement up from the sidewalk and parking lot and rent a dumpster to put into.  A DPW Committee Meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2012 at 3 p.m.

Old Business

Council agreed to get survey done from asbestos company on old school. 

 

S. Hadaway – Interim Village Clerk – read her resignation effective June 29, 2012.  Wassa/Gehrls made a motion to accept S. Hadaway’s resignation with regrets effective June 29, 2012.  Motion Carried.

 

Wassa/Humpert made a motion to post the Part-Time Village Clerk’s position in the Saginaw, Bay City Times and Tuscola Advertiser.  The posting will run for two weeks and will be due on Monday, June 18th at 12:00 p.m.  Motion Carried.

 

New Business

Council requested that D. Englehart get bids on port-a-johns for the Village Park. 

 

Finances

Leen/Wassa made a motion to approve June bills totaling: $8785.75.  Motion Carried.

 

Wassa/Gehrls made a motion to write off $4,000.00 (5 fire runs) in doubtful debts to the Fire Department.  Motion Carried.

 

The Council reviewed wording on tax receipts and have changed the wording, removing the special sewer assessment paragraph. 

 

As there was no other business, meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
