Section 1. The General Law Village Charter Public Act 255 provides for the appointment of the Fairgrove Village Clerk and Village Treasurer.

 

Section 2. The Clerk and Treasurer of the Village of Fairgrove shall each be appointed by a majority vote of the council after nomination of each by the President.

 

Section 3. The terms of the Clerk and Treasurer shall each be two (2) years. The person first appointed as Village Clerk or Village Treasurer under this ordinance shall have an initial term of office commencing as of the date such person takes and subscribes the oath of office and files the same with the Village, together with the filing of any bond required by law, but such initial term of office shall commence not earlier than the 1^st of September 2000.

 

Section 4. If any section of this ordinance is held invalid by operation of law or by any tribunal of competent jurisdiction, or if compliance with or enforcement of any section should be ruled invalid by such tribunal, the remainder of the ordinance shall not be affected thereby. In the event that there is conflict with any other ordinance, this ordinance shall supersede.

 

Section 5. The Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published as required by law, and this ordinance shall take effect forty-five (45) days after the date of adoption unless a petition signed by not less than ten (10) percent of the registered electors of the village is filed with the village clerk within the forty-five (45) day period. In which case the ordinance takes effect upon the approval at an election held on the question.
